How do I know which longboard is good for me?

If you are unsure about anything you can always email us at customerservice@adrenalinastore.com we are happy to help!

What kinds of longboards are there?

Almost any board that is not a street deck (popsicle shaped) can constitute a longboard.  There are boards for; freeriding, downill (speed boarding), slalom, carving, cruising, long distance, and technical sliding.

What is the difference between slide-through and drop-through truck mounting options?

Top mount decks are more traditional, the board will sit "on top" of the trucks. top mount

A drop through will lower the deck closer to the ground, many people find this easier for balance or easier to foot break. drop through

What are the main difference between standard kingping and reverse kingpin trucks?

Standard kingpins are known to be more stable but not as carvable, and they are mostly mounted on traditional skateboards.  While reverse kingpins offer deeper carves and considered by some to be less stable. A reverse kingpin truck will give your ride more of a surfing feeling on your longboard, pintail, drop-trought deck, or top-mount.

How can I make sure I am getting the best deal?

We always want to make sure you're getting the most bang for the buck, we will match any competitors prices.

How do I know when to clean my bearings and how?

You always want the bearing to spin unrestricted, even one grain of sand can make it rough.  Most lubrications would work well to clean your bearings, stay away from WD-40 as it is water based and will cause your bearings to rust.  Get a bones bearings cleaining kit.

How will I know what wheel(s) are best for me?

This will depend mostly on your discipline.  Wheels with a hard or squared edge will be better for carving, grip, and traction.  While a wheel with a rounded edge will be better for sliding and drifting.

How do I prevent the speed wobbles?

Usually by tightening your trucks and change to harder bushings. (Riptide Bushings)  You can also change around your riding position, try putting more weight over your front foot.

What is a "soft" and "hard" wheel?

Hard wheels are generally used for street and park skating.  In the longboard world hard wheels are standard for technical sliding.  They are made from polyurethane just like soft wheels except they are much harder.  Soft wheels are used for every remaining skate discipline such as; downhill, freeriding, slalom and cruising.

Is it a good idea to buy a cheap Longboard?

Well, let's put it this way, when you buy a cheap longboard like many online stores out there offer, you end up not enjoying longboarding like you should.  Your parts will break, the longboard wont turn like it should and your expirience will suck, guaranteed, leaving you with a poor skateboard that you will never use again.  So we highly recomend that you buy a longboard that that will last, and perform like it should.  We offer all the top skateboard brands and quality products.  Our Build Your Own Board Section will guide you to pick the best longboard that fits your style of riding, Decks, wheels, trucks, safety gear and any other component or accesory you may be looking for. You can call us anytime, we will be available to answer any questions you may have.

How can I learn how to Longboard?

If you would like to learn how to longboard, the first thing to do is ask your local skateshop for advice.  At Adrenalina we teach how to skate, downhill, freeride, pushing long distances and safety; such as what safety gear to use and how to use it.  If you find a hill, please do not bomb from the top of the hill, start at the bottom and work your way up.  Call us for more information 858-456-2061

Riding Styles:

Carving: for people that like to hold their live well in turns and not slide out very much. Carving and pumping much like surfing. It does not mean that your will not slide at all, but it is set up to squared lipped wheels that grip better while maintaining your speed.

Downhill: this style is for experienced longboarders who like going down large hills and mountain passes. The boards are built to handle speed.  Owning a downhill longboard doesn't mean that you are licensed automatically to bomb hills, you must learn first how to slide, drift on corners, foot brake and air brake before you attempt this.

Freeride: this means that the board is meant for all kinds of sliding, either on a hill or flat ground. This skateboard is set up with round lipped wheels to make it easier for you to slide. If you would like to leave urethane lines on the street, then this is for you.

Park: this style means that you like to ollie, tear up transitions, ramps, funboxes, halfpipes, bowls, etc... there are skateparks all over the globe. You will need a traditional skateboard to practice this style and you may use this board to practice street skateboarding as well, use natural elements around your neighborhood.

Commuter: here is something for everyone, this style is typically easier to push because the boards are lower to the ground, making it easier to footbrake and are well suited to travel long distances or just to get you out there and exercise. These boards are perfect to push for the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon, a 26.2 mile race on skateboards. Register today and start training.
